The senior staff of Eastern Ways Martial Arts® went on a eight-day trip to China from Oct. 13-21 in 2004 to compete at the First World Traditional Wushu Festival- the largest competition of traditional Chinese martial arts ever held in China!
This tournament featured 2500 competitors from around the world! The staff of Eastern Ways traveled to Zhengzhou, China to compete in the event with competitions over three days in hand, weapon and two-person events. Eastern Ways Martial Arts® traveled as part of the Plum Blossom International Federation, with a team headed by Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong and his son Sifu Wong, and totalling 40 people. This team in turn competed under the Hong Kong Wushu Federation as invited by Grandmaster's teacher, Great-Grandmaster Wong Gong. The Federation as a whole took home 80 medals in various events, and Eastern Ways Martial Arts' team of 9 competitors won a total of 19 medals - 4 Gold, 11 Silver, and 4 Bronze.
Eastern Ways also took the opportunity to visit the Shaolin Temple in Songshan, with a spectacular demonstration put on by over 40,000 performers in Dengfeng, outside the temple. The Eastern Ways team then traveled to Hong Kong to sightsee and relax before returning to America.
