Sifu Chun

Hans Chun started in the martial arts in 1988 at the age of 8 with traditional Japanese aikido. At age 12 he trained in tae kwon do. In 1999, he began training with Eastern Ways Martial Arts in traditional Choy Li Fut Kung Fu and Yang style Tai Chi Chuan. In 2001 he was honored to become the personal student of Tai Sifu Alan Hubbard, 6th Generation in the lineage of Choy Li Fut, 3rd Generation in Yang style Tai Chi Chuan and disciple of Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong.

 

Sifu Chun is an accomplished world traveler, having been abroad to places like the UK, Australia, Guam, Saipan, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore. He has traveled to China 3 times, visiting both Northern and Southern China, including visiting the Songshan Shaolin Temple.

 

Sifu Chun has successfully participated in tournaments all across Northern California, including the Eastern Ways Martial Arts Tournament, the Plum Blossom International Federation Tournament and the Berkeley Wushu Tournament. He has won medals at these tournaments in hand, weapon and two-person forms in kung fu and tai chi, as well as sparring and push hands.

In 2004, he competed in the First World Traditional Wushu Festival in Zhengzhou , China , where he earned two silver medals one for his hand form and one for his two person form, and a gold medal for his weapon form, Choy Li Fut's rare Farmer's Hoe.

 

SifuChun is a lion dancer and has performed at many events, including the Chinese New Year Parade and Double Ten Parade in San Francisco, the California State Fair, the Pacific Rim Street Festival in Sacramento, the Eastern Ways Martial Arts tournaments and banquets, the Plum Blossom Federation tournaments and banquets, many Chinese New Year celebrations, cultural demonstrations, weddings, grand openings, and other events.

 

Sifu Chun is the head instructor of Eastern Ways Martial Arts' Folsom under Sifu Hubbard. He teaches as a full-time profession the arts of Choy Li Fut Kung Fu, Yang style Tai Chi Chuan and Lion Dancing, and has been teaching full-time since 2001. He has been awarded the Outstanding Instructor of the Year award at Eastern Ways Martial ArtsĀ® for both 2002 and 2003. He is one of only two people to receive the award two years in a row.
